Fifth on debut after a tardy break in a Cork maiden Oct. 20, Plan was sent off the 11-4 favorite and broke well to race behind the leading group early. Despite allowing Admiral Barry (Ire) (Kalanisi {Ire}) a long lead on the home turn, the chestnut inhaled that rival under mainly hand riding before dominating the final furlong. He had 5 1/2 lengths over Tarkari (Ire) (Fantastic Light), who edged out the long-time leader in the final stride. “Sean Levey, who rode him at Cork, told me he was impressed with him there and that he would take all the beating today,” jockey Seamus Heffernan commented. “He's pretty straightforward for a Storm Cat and when they are like that, they can be anything.” The nicely bred colt is the third foal out of the first-class Spain, the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff heroine who retired as the leading female money earner of all time. In 2003, Dromoland Farm purchased Spain for $5.3 million at the Keeneland November sale while in foal to Storm Cat. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, Eu13,020.
