Figures Up At The Curragh

Figures released following the final meeting at The Curragh for 2015 show increases in both attendance and betting for the season. Attendance was up 6.5% to 109,960, while total on-course betting increased 30% to €14,556,628. Broken down by Tote and bookmakers, Tote betting was up 38% to €7,109,396, while betting with bookmakers was up 21% to €6,254,635. Turnover at Paddy Power’s on-course betting shops were up 15% to €1,114,599.

It has been an excellent year both on and off the track with increased attendances and betting figures, while the majority of our key races have rated well above the required parameter and a number are in line for an upgrade in the not-too-distant future,” said Curragh General Manager Paul Hensey. “We also enjoyed a 22% increase in the number of overseas-trained runners this year.”

The celebrations to mark the 150th running of the Irish Derby went very well with over 25,000 people in attendance on Derby Day, an increase of 2,000 on last year’s figure,” Hensey added. “Longines Irish Champions Weekend has gone from strength-to-strength and although the weather was not kind to us, the racing was top-class.”
