Darius Racing's bargain buy Pashang (Isfahan) justified his entry in July's G1 157th Deutsches Derby with a scintillating display in Sunday's Preis vom Gestut Auenquelle at Mulheim to become his sire's first TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard.

The €24,000 BBAG September graduate was doing all his best work at the business end of a Dortmund all-weather maiden, when runner-up to subsequent G3 Dr Busch Memorial-winning stablemate Asker (Aclaim), in December and shed maiden status in emphatic style over 12 furlongs in this turf debut.

“He's a very talented horse and there was still plenty of energy left in the tank,” winning rider Thore Hammer-Hansen told GaloppOnline after completing an additional circuit of the track.

“We wanted to employ a patient strategy, but he calmed down so nicely in front. He found a great rhythm where he was breathing well and could move freely within his natural stride length. Then he very, very quickly crushed the competition. He's a very high-class horse, and I'm delighted for Darius Racing and Holger Faust. They now have another top horse for their colours, but the road to the top is very steep.”

Pashang was swiftly into stride from the outside stall and seized immediate control. Holding sway throughout, he was given a shake of the reins by Hammer-Hansen in early straight and thundered clear under minimal urging inside the final 300 metres to easily outclass Worrington (Lope De Vega) by an impressive seven lengths.

Pashang is the third of five foals and second scorer thrown by Listed Stutenpreis des Gestuts Winterhauch victrix Prima Violetta (Areion), herself a half-sister to dual Listed Steher Cup winner Power Euro (Peintre Celebre).

Prima Violetta is out of a dual-winning half-sister to the stakes-placed Power Eva (Ransom O'War) and her multiple-winning second dam Power Queen (Danehill) is a sibling of G1 Deutsches Derby victor Pik Konig (Konigsstuhl) and the dual Group 2 winner Power Flame (Dashing Blade).

Power Queen is also kin to the second dam of Polish Vulcano (Lomitas), who is the sire of last year's German Derby winner Hochkonig, while Pik Konig and Power Flame are out of a stakes-winning half-sister to G1 Deutsches Derby and G2 German 2000 Guineas hero Philipo (Prince Ippi).

Pashang is a half-brother to the hitherto unraced two-year-old colt Power Primo (Protectionist) and a yearling colt by Windstoss.
