Co-trainer Gai Waterhouse confirmed 'TDN Rising Star' El Divino (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}) is on track for the G1 Golden Rose S., the first Group 1 of the season for 3-year-olds, at Rosehill Sept. 10. The half-brother to Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) is two-for-two, having broken his maiden by nearly five lengths at Gosford Mar. 17 before dead-heating with Astern (Aus) (Medaglia d'Oro) in the G3 Kindergarten S. at The Championships Apr. 2.
El Divino finished second to fellow 'Rising Star' and G1 Golden Slipper winner Capitalist (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Aus}) in a Randwick barrier trial July 29, and Waterhouse–who has officially begun her training partnership with former assistant Adrian Bott–told Racing.com El Divino has grown up over the Australian winter.
“Outstanding horse. First of all, he completely and utterly is filled in behind,” Waterhouse told Racing.com's Racing Ahead on RSN 927. “He's a massive horse, very masculine. When a horse walks in that's a good horse, you don't have to be told it's good. He's got an air about him.”
El Divino is campaigned by his breeder, John Camilleri of Fairway Thoroughbreds, with Widden Stud having purchased an interest in the colt in May. His now-2-year-old full-brother will also race for Waterhouse and Bott, having been bought by Emirates Park Stud for A$2.3-million to top the Inglis Australian Easter yearling sale in April.
