Eragon (Arg) (Offlee Wild) has cleared quarantine in South Florida and has joined the string of trainer Laura Wohlers at Gulfstream Park to prepare for the GI Pegasus World Cup Jan. 28.
After arriving from Argentina Dec. 19, Eragon entered quarantine for an expected week-long stay, but Wohlers reported that 'unforeseen' circumstances lengthened the 5-year-old's time there.
“I'm so glad to have him out of quarantine,” said Wohlers as Eragon was hand-walked around the shedrow. “One of the horses in quarantine had a suspicious test which turned out to be nothing but because of protocol we unfortunately had to stay there longer. He's lost a little weight since I saw him in Argentina, but that was to be expected as he was not getting the large amount of feed he had been getting while there. All in all, he looks pretty good, and his energy is up.”
Winner of the 2016 G1 Estrellas Mile (video) while under the care of trainer Roberto Pellegata, Eragon most recently recorded the third top-level success of his career in the G1 Gran Premio Hipodromo de Palermo Nov. 12 (video).
Wohlers said she is aiming for two works for Eragon between now and the Pegasus. James McIngvale purchased his slot in the Pegasus intending to run 2015 Eclipse Award-winning sprinter in the Pegasus, but he was retired after finishing down the field in the GI Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.
