The catalogue for Arqana's 2017 August Yearling Sale, which produced this year's G1 Investec Derby winner Wings Of Eagles (Fr) (Pour Moi {Ire}) in addition to last year's Cartier champion 3-year-old colt Almanzor (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) and dual Royal Ascot winner Qemah (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), is online. The sale takes place in Deauville on Aug. 19 to 21 and includes 140 yearlings out of black-type mares (42% of the catalogue and 52% of Part I over the first two days) and 111 siblings to black-type performers from 334 catalogued. Haras des Capucines will offer an Invincible Spirit (Ire) filly out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner and producer Stacelita (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}) (lot 73) and a Siyouni (Fr) half-brother to Grade I winner Zagora (Fr) (Green Tune) (lot 103). Coulonces Sales's consignment includes two of the 10 Frankels on offer as well as a Lope de Vega (Ire) colt out of Group 3 winner and four times Group 1-placed Venus de Milo (Ire) (Duke of Marmalade {Ire}) (), while Haras d'Etreham's 21-strong consignment includes a full-brother to Almanzor (lot 143) as well as the progeny of sisters to Rhododendron (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) (lot 7) and September (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) (lot 52). Arqana Chief Executive Officer Eric Hoyeau said, “We can say without a doubt that the quality of the August Sale catalogue keeps improving year on year. This is the result of a combination of favorable factors–the track record of our graduates, the improving standard of the stallion roster in France, the relentless efforts from French-based breeders to upgrade their stock, matched by those of our bloodstock team to headhunt some special individuals all around Europe. The input of the first factor may be bigger than usual this year, with the arrival on the market of the best-bred yearlings by Le Havre and Siyouni as well as of progeny of some young sires who have already gained international recognition such as Dabirsim, Rajsaman and Wootton Bassett. On the track, the 2017 racing season has been off to a flying start, emphasised by the historical victory of Wings Of Eagles, the first Derby winner ever to have been bought at Deauville. The entire team that took part in the selection process share my confidence in the fact that the catalogue we are unveiling today will reveal many more outstanding racehorses, and we can't wait for buyers from all around the world to see them.”
