Baffert Keeps Busy at OBS

Shortly after landing the winning bid on the $700,000 Street Boss colt, Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert–doing his bidding out back alongside owner Bernie Schiappa of Game on Dude fame–outlasted Alex Solis II and Jason Litt by extending to $650,000 for a Tale of the Cat filly. Baffert said that the purchase was made on behalf of owner Ed Savant. The $220,000 slip on Kaleem Shah’s subsequent GII Santa Ynez S. Awesome Baby (Awesome Again) was also signed as Mr. Ed Savant at the 2012 Keeneland September sale. “I loved the way she worked,” Baffert said. “She’s by Tale of the Cat out of an A.P. Indy mare–for the good ones, you’re just going to have to pay. When they’re the type of horse that you think can compete at the top level, you have to pay top prices.” The dark bay, produced by the unraced A.P. Indy mare A. P. Baby, zipped through an eighth in :10 1/5 at the breeze show. The March foal’s third dam Corrazona (El Gran Senor) produced Olmodavor (A.P. Indy), MGSW & GISP, $706,540. Acquired by trainer Eddie Kenneally for $90,000 as a KEESEP yearling, she was consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent XXXVII, as Hip 58. “She’s been a spectacular filly all year and she sold amazingly well,” Woods commented. “No, I didn’t think that she’d bring $650,000; I thought she’d bring between $400-500k. It looks like it’s a great sale so far. All the right guys landed on her, and it’s just who wants to go the furthest.”
