Brown Panther Out Of Gold Cup

Leading G1 Gold Cup contender Brown Panther (GB) (Shirocco {Ger}) has been ruled out of that Royal Ascot contest after suffering an injury to his near foreleg Saturday.

“He suffered an injury this morning and he needs some anti-inflammatories, so he won’t be able to run on Thursday,” confirmed trainer Tom Dascombe. “At this stage we don’t know the extent of the injury, so I can’t tell you any more. It’s very disappointing.”

Winner of the King George V H. at Royal Ascot in 2011, Brown Panther has taken in many of Britain’s top staying contests. The Michael Owen and Andrew Black colorbearer was third in last year’s Gold Cup and earned a belated first Group 1 win in the G1 Irish St Leger in September. He took the G2 Dubai Gold Cup on seasonal debut Mar. 28, and was runner-up in the G2 Yorkshire Cup upon returning to Britain May 15.
