Byron Limbers Up For Hong Kong
Globetrotting sprinter Gordon Lord Byron (Ire) (Byron {GB}), last seen finishing fourth in the G1 Hong Kong Sprint Dec. 14, tuned up for another trip to that nation for the Mar. 15 G1 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup with a spin over the Dundalk course prior to racing yesterday. The 7-year-old gelding completed a mile over the course under jockey Wayne Lordan.
“He just did what we wanted and he’s in good shape,” said trainer Tom Hogan. “He did a mile on his own at a nice clip. He worked with another horse here last Friday, and will come back here next Friday to do another bit with another horse. He loves it up here and it seems to suit him.”
Hogan added, “He’ll fly out of Stansted on Mar. 4. It’s his fifth time running in Hong Kong–he’s nearly run more times there than he has at Dundalk.”
Gordon Lord Byron has won Group 1 races in three different countries–France, England and Australia–and he wrapped up his European season last year with a victory in the G2 British Champions Sprint S. Oct. 18.
