Cheveley Park Announce Fees

Cheveley Park Stud have released their stallion fees for 2017 with 23-year-old stalwart Pivotal (GB) (Polar Falcon {GB}) still heading the roster at the Newmarket stud at £40,000, a £5,000 reduction on his 2016 fee. A more significant cut to Dutch Art (GB) (Medicean {GB})'s fee means the 12–year-old will be available to breeders for £25,000 in 2017 compared to £40,000 earlier this year. New on the roster for next season is Group 1 winning sprinter Twilight Son (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) who is introduced at a fee of £10,000. “At...

Racing Rallies Behind Tylicki
Racing Rallies Behind Tylicki

Countless figures have voiced their support for Freddy Tylicki–who, it was announced on Friday, is paralysed from the waist down after a horrific fall at Kempton on Monday–and many have also shown their support by donating to a Go Fund Me account. By Saturday evening, after being active for 17 hours, the account had already raised over £78,000, well past its £20,000 target. The 30-year-old Tylicki, who was champion apprentice in 2009, had enjoyed a banner year in 2016, winning his first Group 1 aboard Speedy Boarding (GB) (Shamardal) in...

Palmer To Cap Big Year At Breeders' Cup

European visitors to the Breeders' Cup have never found the land of the free quite so divided. But both sides of this bitter race for the White House would doubtless be united in bemusement that Britain's only runner in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint--sired by an Australian migrant, foaled in Ireland, raised in France--should bear the name Home Of The Brave (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). In his trainer, however, they would recognise the kind of talent and ambition bound to thrive in any land of opportunity. Success here would seal...

Derrinstown Offerings Top Sale

The inaugural single-session Tattersalls Ireland Flat Foal and Breeding Stock Sale took place on Friday, with Sheikh Hamdan's Derrinstown Stud selling the two top-priced lots. The dual winner is from the family of Japanese champion racehorse and sire Deep Impact (Jpn) (Sunday Silence). It was a sizeable price gap to the 4-year-old mare Naizah (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}) (lot 180), who was bought by Atlantic Bloodstock...

Restricted Books For Ballyhane Sires

There's long been discussion in the bloodstock industry regarding the number of mares covered by each stallion and at least two new sires for 2017 will have their books limited. Following Paul Makin's assertion last month that Marcel (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}) will cover no mare than 80 mares during his first season at the National Stud in Newmarket, Joe Foley of Ballyhane Stud has announced that all five of his stallions will have their books restricted to a maximum of 125 mares. That includes Ballyhane's most recent recruit, the G2...

Yankee Rose Bone Chip Discovered

Dual Group 1 winner Yankee Rose (Aus) (All American {Aus}), who beat just one home as the A$1.95 favourite in Thursday's G1 Crown Oaks at Flemington, has emerged from that race with a bone chip in her left knee, trainer David Vandyke told Racenet.com.au. "Yankee Rose was found to be lame this morning with filling in her left knee," Vandyke said. "X-rays have revealed a chip. She will be operated on next Thursday. We hope to have her back for the winter." Yankee Rose had previously established herself among the...

Kendargent enjoyed another successful season on the track, his representatives including G1 King's Stand S. third Goken (Fr) and G3 Prix de la Porte Maillot winner Jimmy Two Times (Fr). In the sales ring, a Kendargent...

Candy Savouring Breeders' Cup Experience

Even as Henry Candy followed Limato (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}) through the backstretch on Thursday morning, the rising sun suddenly flooded both the lane to the racetrack and the beckoning stretch itself with a dazzling stream of light. It really did seem as though his champion's path to the GI Breeders' Cup Mile might be paved with gold. Admittedly Candy himself presented a faintly incongruous spectacle, this septuagenarian traditionalist entering the spirit of things so gamely that he was even sporting a baseball cap. But while his own bearing remained as...
