Mount Coote A Standing Dish At Tattersalls

As Tattersalls celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, one of its longest-standing current consignors is Mount Coote Stud. Pedigree Insights: National Defense

As the unexpected is part of the appeal of racing and breeding, it is always fascinating when a comparatively inexpensive stallion manages to bridge the considerable gap which separates them from the elite sires. Danzig's tough son Green Desert was responsible for two such stallions. First to make the leap was the miler Cape Cross, who started so brightly that his fee rose quickly from an initial IR£8,000 to €50,000. He justified the increase by siring the magnificent Sea The Stars from one of his €50,000 crops, plus the classic...

About a month before this year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the French-language publication Jour de Galop devoted an entire edition giving guidance to those wishing to attend the Arc this year at Chantilly. "Don't be afraid," they advised. Much like the Breeders' Cup last year at Keeneland, the Arc at Chantilly was a large-format event coming to a smaller-than-usual stage, and in the months leading up to the event, many annual attendees told me they were going to sit this one out, anticipating a traffic nightmare, overcrowding, long lines and...
