By Emma Berry As opening acts go, hosting a lavish garden party in one of London's historic palaces with Johnny Murtagh riding high on Joey from War Horse, the first-ever Frankel foal to go under the hammer and a couple of stallions on show is always going to be a hard one to beat. Goffs' Chief Executive Henry Beeby is never short of enthusiasm or imagination, however, and he is confident that this year's London Sale, hosted in association with QIPCO on Monday, June 15, will be every bit as...

With two-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder (Henny Hughes) set to make her return to action in the GIII Adoration S. this weekend at Santa Anita, My Sweet Addiction (Tiznow) takes the path of least resistance and ventures beyond the borders of the Golden State for the first time in Saturday's GII Fleur de Lis H. at Churchill Downs, a Breeders' Cup Challenge race for the Distaff. The homebred daughter of GISW Healthy Addiction (Boston Harbor) was eased home sixth and last in the seven-furlong GII Santa Monica S. Jan. 19 and was...

By Lucas Marquardt Mike Recio and Arika Everatt-Meeuse began doing business together over a decade ago, when Mike was working for Taylor Made Sales and Arika was helping run her family's commercial breeding operation, Shannondoe Farm. Now, the two have joined forces and launched a new sales consignment, South Point Sales Agency, which sends out its first major draft this week at Keeneland January. The four-day sale begins tomorrow in Lexington at 10:00 a.m. South Point had a soft launch at Fasig-Tipton November, where it sold a handful of weanlings,...
Kevin Plank's Sagamore Farm added one of January's more unique offerings yesterday when farm advisor Bob Feld went to $335,000 for Evening Sky (Jpn), a recently imported daughter of leading Japanese sire Heart's Cry (Jpn). The 6-year-old sold in foal on an Apr. 28 cover to the expat Empire Maker. Taylor Made Sales Agency offered her as Hip 270. "We had one of our best mares pass away this year, and we really wanted to concentrate on bringing a deep family back to the farm," said Feld. "And it's hard to beat...
Valid (Medaglia d'Oro) exited his GIII Fred Hooper S. victory in excellent conditioner, according to trainer Marcus Vitali. Lochte (Medaglia d'Oro) also returned from his seventh-place effort in the GI Gulfstream Park Turf H. well, Vitalia noted. "They came out of the races excellent," Vitali said. "When you show up and run like they did, the next day, of course, they're a little tired. I mean, I'm tired, never mind them." As for Valid's race, Vitali said, "It was phenomenal. He's a nice horse. The team did a great job with him. I...

The G3 Firebreak S. showcases older horses going a mile on the dirt, and Sheikh Hamdan's Tamarkuz (Speightstown) indicated his affinity for the track and trip with a 4 1/2-length handicap score Jan. 22. The lightly raced 5-year-old began his career with trainer Saeed bin Suroor in the UK and was a perfect three-for-three on the all-weather over two seasons, but he showed little in two starts on the Meydan Tapeta last year. His dirt debut was a three-quarter length second going seven furlongs Jan. 8, and he followed up with his...

Chalk Racing's Ready for Rye (City Zip) exited his victory in Saturday's GII Fasig-Tipton Swale S. in good shape and will likely stick to sprinting in the near future, according to trainer Tom Albertrani. “He looked fine this morning,” Albertrani said. “I think for now [we're going to keep him sprinting]. I'm not convinced that he might go that far, but he got a 109 Beyer out of the race [Saturday], so that's pretty impressive. I think if we stick to a seven-eighths race like the [Apr. 4 GIII] Bay Shore that...

The chestnut filly turned in a best-of-12 five-furlong work at Payson Park Tuesday in 1:02.00. It was her fourth work since joining Mott's Florida base in January. “She is starting to go through the training process of getting fit,” said Mott, who trains the filly for Jon Clay's Alpha Delta Stables. “She's doing fine.” ...
