Conquest Two Step (Two Step Salsa–Homesteader, by Pioneering)–winner of the GII Palos Verdes S. Jan. 31 and a narrow runner-up to Shared Belief (Candy Ride {Arg}) in the GI Malibu S. Dec. 26–was euthanized earlier this week.

“Unfortunately, he broke his hind leg while exercising last Saturday, and our vet had to make the difficult call to put him out of his pain [Monday] night,” owner Conquest Stables Tweeted. “We know that we join in with many others who won’t ever forget this magnificent colt.”

Conquest Two Step, a $20,000 OBSAUG yearling turned $420,000 OBSAPR graduate, was bred in Florida by Manuel Andrade. Under the care of trainer Mark Casse, the dark bay posted a record of 11-3-5-2 and earnings of $339,408. The 4-year-old, also multiple stakes placed over the all-weather, was last seen finishing third as the 4-5 favorite in the GII San Carlos S. Mar. 7.
