John Oxley's Danzig Moon (Malibu Moon), fifth in the May 2 GI Kentucky Derby, will line up for next Saturday's GI Preakness S.
“He came out of the Derby really well and deserves one more chance,” reported Norman Casse, assistant to his father, trainer Mark Casse. “We made the decision last night, but we wanted to give him another day to train before making the announcement. He trained great this morning going a mile and a half in the first set.”
A maiden winner at Gulfstream Park in February, Danzig Moon was fourth behind Carpe Diem (Giant's Causeway) in the GII Tampa Bay Derby before runner-up, again behind Carpe Diem, in the Apr. 4 GI Toyota Blue Grass S. He was beaten 6 1/2 lengths by American Pharoah when fifth in the Derby.
Casse said the colt would ship to Maryland Wednesday.
