Daredevil, Frosted Work for Wood
Two GI Twinspires.com Wood Memorial hopefuls in Daredevil (More Than Ready) and Frosted (Tapit) worked Sunday in preparation for Saturday’s upcoming affair.
The GI Champagne S. winner, who recently finished second in the GII Fasig-Tipton Swale S. in his sophomore debut Feb. 7, covered a half-mile in :48.85 in company over the Belmont training track Sunday.
“I thought he did it very well,” Byron Hughes, assistant to trainer Todd Pletcher said of Daredevil. “He looked good doing it, went very easily, and galloped out strong; we’re definitely happy with the work. It didn’t start out as planned [with Daredevil breaking a few lengths in front of his mate], but the rider adapted and had a good hold of him.”
Frosted, who was second in the GII Remsen Nov. 29 and the GII Lambholm South Holy Bull S. Jan. 24 before finishing fourth in the GII Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth S. Feb. 21, went five panels 1:00.45 in company at Palm Meadows Sunday. “He worked great this morning, going five furlongs in a minute and two-fifths,” said trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. “We’re excited. We feel like we’ve accounted for every issue, and he has no excuse not to run his best race. We know he has talent; he has to show it on Saturday. The track was very tiring for the Fountain of Youth and was again yesterday [for the Florida Derby], so we’re happy with our decision [to go to New York for the Wood].”
