+SHEIKH OF SHEIKHS (c, 2, Discreetly Mine— Homesteader, by Pioneering) was entered for main track only in yesterday’s Schenectady S. and was forced to scratch out of that event and make his career debut nearly 24 hours later. Purchased for $330,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale following a furlong work in :10 flat, the bay broke on top and ticked off opening splits of :22.71 and :46.06 from the fence. The 6-1 shot rolled clear in the lane under a motionless Eric Cancel to win for fun by four lengths, giving his trainer another promising juvenile prospect one day after Acapulco (Scat Daddy) finished second facing elders in the G1 Nunthorpe S. at York. Portfolio Manager (Harlan’s Holiday) was second. The winner, who also sold for $50,000 as a KEESEP yearling, is a half to the ill-fated Conquest Two Step (Two Step Salsa), GSW & GISP, $339,408. The winner’s dam produced the colt First Step (Two Step Salsa) last year and has a weanling filly also by Two Step Salsa. She was bred to Drill this year. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $49,800.
