Diversy’ Seeks Second Straight Win
Fresh off a victory in the GII Buena Vista S., Glen Hill Farm’s ‘TDN Rising Star’ Diversy Harbor (Curlin) looks to make it two in a row in Sunday’s GII Santa Ana S. going 1 1/18 miles over the Santa Anita turf course. Second to Queen’s Plate winner Lexie Lou (Sligo Bay {Ire}) in the GIII Autumn Miss S. here Oct. 25, the Tom Proctor pupil came charging late in her trademark style to miss by just a nose next out when reunited with Hall of Famer Gary Stevens in the track-and-trip GIII Robert J. Frankel S. Dec. 27. The consistent bay employed her swift turn of foot to take down GISW La Tia (City Place) last time in the one-mile Buena Vista Feb. 16, and looks like the one to beat here.
James Covello, Thomas Coleman and Doheny Racing Stable’s GIII Florida Oaks heroine Testa Rossi (Fr) (Dr Fong) followed that win with a fourth in Keeneland’s GI Ashland S. on the synthetic Apr. 5, and was a non-factor seventh as the chalk when returning off a seven-month layoff in the GII Mrs. Revere S. Nov. 15. The Chad Brown trainee finished a close second to Hard Not to Like (Hard Spun) in her seasonal bow in Tampa Bay’s GIII Endeavour S. Jan. 31, but was promoted to first when the winner was disqualified for interference in deep stretch. The chestnut seemed to take to this surface in her last start here in the 2012 GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, where she finished second to the ill-fated Chriselliam (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}).
Brown also saddles another major contender in Bethlehem Stables, Michael Dubb and Highclere America’s Rosalind (Broken Vow). Dead-heat winner of the Ashland, the chestnut finished fourth behind champion Untapable (Tapit) in the GI Kentucky Oaks May 2 before taking a trip across the pond, where she unseated her rider just at the start of Royal Ascot’s G1 Coronation S. June 20. A non-factor ninth in her Stateside return in the GI Belmont Oaks July 5, the 4-year-old failed to fire again when 10th in the GIII Valley View S. at Keeneland Oct. 17 in her final start for previous trainer Ken McPeek. Transferred to the Brown barn, Rosalind made her seasonal debut at Gulfstream in the 1 1/8-mile GIII Suwanee River S., where she finished second Feb. 7.
