DMR Releases November Stakes Schedule
Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will hold 14 stakes races worth $2.25 million during its inaugural 15-day November meet, which begins Friday, Nov. 7 and ends Sunday, Nov. 30. These racing dates were formerly occupied by the now shuttered Hollywood Park. Del Mar will race Friday through Sunday during opening weekend, and Thursday through Sunday thereafter. Stakes highlights include the Nov. 29 GI Hollywood Derby and Nov. 30 GI Matriarch S. Del Mar has renamed a number of stakes races–the GII Citation H. will now be called the Seabiscuit H., and will be run Nov. 28. A number of stakes names have been changed to keep with the track’s theme relating to celebrity founder Bing Crosby and it’s fall “Bing Crosby Season,” and include the Nov. 7 Kathryn Crosby S.; Nov. 9 Betty Grable S. (formerly Cat’s Cradle S.); Nov. 15 GIII Bob Hope S. (formerly Hollywood Prevue); Nov. 16 Desi Arnaz S. (formerly Moccasin S.); and Nov. 23 Cary Grant S. “We’re going to have a strong emphasis on turf racing and 2-year-olds,” said racing secretary David Jerkens. “We’ll be reaching out to European interests and out-of-state stables to add some special spice to the meet. Our Thanksgiving weekend includes a half dozen major grass races which should be well-received by our local horsemen as well as an incentive for any outfits that are willing to ship runners.” For the full stakes schedule, click here.
