Fasig-Tipton Hosts Saratoga Fall Sale
A total of 374 horses of all ages have been catalogued for the single-session Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Fall Sale, which begins Monday at 10 a.m. at the Finney Sales Pavilion in upstate New York. The sale, which has a distinct Empire State feeling to it, will begin with approximately 100 in-foal mares followed by about 60 yearlings and over 200 weanlings.
“And virtually of them are New York-bred weanlings,” remarked Boyd Browning Jr., president and chief executive officer of Fasig-Tipton. “There is tremendous interest in the New York-bred right now. The quality continues to improve each year and I would expect significant interest in both the New York-bred weanlings and the New York-bred yearlings.
He continued, “There is significant market demand for them. You look at the New York Showcase Day [eight black-type events restricted to state-breds worth $1.75 million] and the purse structure that’s in place there and it just shows you that the New York-bred program is the finest in the United States. There are some very nice individuals on the grounds and available for sale on Monday.”
The heightened interest in the New York-bred program and seen a marked increase in the quality of sire power, with several Kentucky-based stallions represented among the weanlings and yearlings, including City Zip, Discreet Cat, Lookin at Lucky, Majesticperfection, Munnings, Sidney’s Candy, Sky Mesa and The Factor. Add to that a reliable bunch New York-based stallions and there is something for everyone, according to Browning.
There is a diverse group of stallions represented,” he commented. “It is a very nice group of stallions standing in New York at the present time, and there are horses by nice stallions from outside the state of New York as well. As the quality of the individual continues to improve, the quality of the pedigrees and the sire power increases every year. It’s a collection of sires we are pleased with.”
