When we combine Fasig-Tipton’s sale Monday with Keeneland November Book 1 on Tuesday-Wednesday, we’re looking at the three key sessions of the Kentucky November Mixed Sales. There were a total of 647 horses (including late additions) catalogued on the three days, of which 381 (58.9%) were sold. Gross receipts over the three days were $159,530,000, for an average of $418,714. On the corresponding three days in 2013, 371 horses sold for a total of $160,391,000, and an average of $432,330. Given that mixed sale catalogues are far more subject to big swings in catalogue strength or weakness than the yearling sales, it’s very striking how similar the totals were to last year: the number of horses sold was up 3%, the gross was down by less than $1-million (one-half of one percent) and the average was down 3%. That’s about as close to even with last year as it’s possible to get.
