Godolphin’s Ihtimal Euthanized

Ihtimal (Ire) (Shamardal–Eastern Joy {GB}, by Dubai Destination), the winner of last year’s Listed UAE 1000 Guineas and 10-length winner of the G3 UAE Oaks, suffered a fatal injury training at Al Quoz stables in Dubai Tuesday, Godolphin reported on their website.

The Darley-bred was never out of the top three in her six trips to the post at two, winning the G3 Sweet Solera S. and G2 May Hill S. before finishing third to the ill-fated Chriselliam (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}) in the G1 Fillies’ Mile.

Returned to Europe after her two dominating victories at Meydan last winter, Ihtimal finished a close third to Miss France (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) in the G1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and was last seen when fifth in the G1 Investec Oaks, beaten 4 1/2 lengths by Taghrooda (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}).

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor commented, “We are deeply saddened at the loss of Ihtimal, she was a very talented racehorse and will be sorely missed.”
