Head Cold Rules Out Free Eagle
Moyglare Stud’s homebred Free Eagle (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) will miss his eagerly awaited comeback run this weekend due to a head cold. The Dermot Weld trained colt was antepost favorite for the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh this Sunday.
Weld said to the Racing Post on Wednesday, “Free Eagle has picked up a head cold and we’ve decided to be cautious. The weather has been very changeable and apart from the head cold he is fine. But he won’t be running on Sunday and we will train him for Royal Ascot where he will have a choice of engagements.”
Free Eagle has only run four times in total and was last seen chasing home Noble Mission (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) and Al Kazeem (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G1 Champion S. at Ascot last October. He holds Royal Ascot entries in both the G2 Hardwicke S. and the G1 Prince Of Wales S. for which is a current 7/2 chance in the market.
