Hero’ Takes G2 Gran Criterium

Hero Look, who opened his account with an impressive show at the end of June over 1200 meters and strolled home in a conditions race over 1500 meters, was the top choice of the four juveniles trained by Stefano Botti. The dominating trainer was just worried about the heavy ground. Hero Look, who stalked the honest pace set by Ginwar, moved to challenge in the last 400 meters. He simply outran Ginwar while Azari, who failed to respond when the first two kicked for home, staying on in third. “The ground bothered him, but he won because he is much better than his rivals,” said winning jockey Fabio Branca. “Hero Look is the best juvenile I’ve ever ridden and probably a first-class colt over a faster ground.” The owner Felice Villa celebrated his first win in the G2 Gran Criterium and added, “With a colt like him we can dream big. The Italian 2000 Guineas are probably a low profile target, but we have all the winter to think about.” Hero Look is the second group winner by the first season sire Lope De Vega, who won the French Guineas and Derby. His dam Roscoff is from a speedy female line developed by Kilfrush Stud.
