Karaktar Straight To French Derby

The Aga Khan, who lifted Sunday’s G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches with Ervedya (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), will look to take out another French Classic, the G1 Prix du Jockey Club May 31, with Karaktar (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}), who will head straight to that Chantilly Classic without another prep, the Aga Khan’s Racing Manager Georges Rimaud confirmed. The winner of his second of three starts as a juvenile, Karaktar has won his two outings this year–the Listed Prix Francois Mathet Mar. 28 and the G3 Prix Noailles Apr. 20–in eye-catching fashion for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre.
“It will be straight to the Jockey Club now,” Rimaud said. “That could of course change, but the thinking at the moment is that he won’t run before then. He’s very well, and it will just be a case of keeping him ticking along until then. If the trainer thinks he needs another run, though, then he may well do, but at this stage the feeling is that he doesn’t.”
