Evergreen sprinter Kingsgate Native (Ire) (Mujadil) is to step back up to pattern level following the 10-year-old gelding's heartwarming win in the Listed Achilles S. at Haydock last Saturday. It is 8 years since Cheveley Park Stud's speedster won the G1 Nunthorpe S. as a 2-year-old and judging on last weekends performance under Graham Lee the old boy has a lot more to offer. His trainer Robert Cowell is eyeing the G3 Coral Charge at Sandown July 4 as the next target and commented, “Kingsgate Native is a superstar and, as Graham Lee said on Saturday, that is the sort of thing that puts a smile on your face. For him to show those younger horses a clean pair of heels in a Listed race is not far of one of his best efforts in recent years.” Cowell added, “I think we will go for the Coral Charge, a race which he has run in before a few times and has been second in the last two years. Given the nature of Sandown you need luck in running, but if he gets an untroubled passage he will go close.” Kingsgate Native had a fruitless stud career having proved infertile and his last success brought his career earnings to well over £800,000.
