Lane’s End Farm has acquired an interest in GI Woodward S. winner and likely GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile favorite Liam’s Map (Unbridled’s Song–Miss Macy Sue, by Trippi), it was announced Wednesday.
“We’re thrilled to be involved with a horse of the quality of Liam’s Map.” said Lane’s End’s Will Farish. “The Woodward is a very important race and we’ve been very lucky with past winners like Quality Road, Saint Liam and Lemon Drop Kid that have gone on to be very successful stallions. His speed figures are unbelievable. His ability to go that fast that far is uncanny. He’s only the second wire-to-wire winner of that race in over 20 years while posting one of the best times in recent memory. Vincent and Teresa Viola are very prominent in the Thoroughbred business today. We are very excited to stand their first stallion at stud, especially a horse the caliber of Liam’s Map.”
Teresa Viola Racing Stables purchased the gray for $800,000 as a Keeneland September yearling and he went on to earn ‘TDN Rising Star’ recognition after his 9 1/2-length graduation last September at Belmont. He finished his sophomore season with an Aqueduct allowance win and a tally in Gulfstream’s Harlan’s Holiday S. and kicked off this year with a Belmont optional claiming victory in June. The Todd Pletcher trainee was a gritty second to Honor Code (A.P. Indy) in Saratoga’s GI Whitney S. and West Point Thoroughbreds bought in on the son of GSW Miss Macy Sue at that point. Liam’s Map easily annexed the GI Woodward S. Sept. 5 with a 114 Beyer Speed Figure. The 4-5 morning-line favorite in the GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile currently boasts a career record of 7-5-2-0 with $808,940 in earnings.
“I have loved Liam since the day we bought him,” Teresa Viola said. “He has been a very special horse to our family. Vinnie and I plan on doing everything we can to help him succeed at stud. We are thrilled to have him going to Lane’s End, the home of so many great stallions.”
