Lynam Considers Curragh Power Trip
Irish racing fans may be in for a rare sight this weekend as trainer Eddie Lynam is considering running his crack sprinter Sole Power (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) on home soil for the first time in almost four years. Not since finishing second in the G3 Flying Five S. at The Curragh in August 2011 has the five time Group 1 winner run in Ireland, having done all his racing since in either UK, Hong Kong, Dubai or France. Sole Power is entered in the G2 Greenlands S. at The Curragh on Saturday but also has an engagement in the G2 Temple S. at Haydock the same day.
Rainfall amounts at each track will determine where the 8-year-old gelding appears and speaking to The Irish Times, Lynam said, “He’ll go wherever the ground comes up OK for him. Basically it’s all about the King’s Stand with him, but like all of us as he’s getting older he’s getting heavier between his races so I’d like to get a run into him.” Lynam added,”If we get a win into him on the way to the Kings Stand, then great, but we’re ultimately looking at Ascot. If the ground is OK I wouldn’t mind running him at the Curragh and we know Richard Hughes will be there so there wouldn’t be a problem in terms of a jockey. We’ll simply have to see about ground.” Sole Power was last seen winning the G1 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan and will be bidding to win the G1 Kings Stand S. at Royal Ascot for the third consecutive year.
