Mohaymen Leads Nashua Field

A field of eight will lineup Wednesday afternoon to contest the GII Nashua S. going a mile at the Big A. Shadwell Stable’s Mohaymen (Tapit) is given the 8-5 morning-line nod off a successful unveiling going six panels at Belmont Sept. 19. The $2.2 million Keeneland September purchase is a half-sibling to 2013 GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner New Year’s Day (Street Cry {Ire}). Phipps Stable homebred Sail Ahoy (Bernardini) graduated in his second start Sept. 12 and was recently fourth in the sloppy GI Champagne S. Oct. 3. Dennis Drazin’s Sunny Ridge (Holy Bull), winner of Monmouth’s Sapling S., rolls into this one off runner-up effort in the Champagne. The Jason Servis trainee will carry six more pounds than the rest of the field, but has enough tactical speed to be appealing as the 5-1 third choice on the morning line. Magna Light (Magna Graduate), who was disqualified and placed second in the GIII Sanford S., recently was a distant second to Ralis (Square Eddie) in the GI Hopeful S. and never factored when seventh in the Champagne. The Tom Albertraini-trained River Dell (Arch) was a good rallying second on debut at Saratoga Aug. 29. The $580,000 OBS March purchase battled down the lane last out to graduate by a nose Oct. 3.
