New Bay Likely For Deauville Date

G1 Prix du Jockey Club victor New Bay (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) is likely to bypass a clash with G1 Epsom Derby and G1 Coral-Eclipse scorer Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. later this month and instead target Deauville's G2 Prix Guillaume Aug. 15, according to trainer Andre Fabre.

“He is in the King George and we will discuss it with the Prince [owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah], but I think he is more likely to run in the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano,” said Fabre. “That is a Group 2 over a mile and a quarter, which will be good for him.”

Khalid Abdullah and Fabre are still set to be represented in the King George, however, by last year's G1 Hong Kong Vase winner Flintshire (GB) (Dansili {GB}), who was also second in last year's G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, GI Breeders' Cup Turf, and two Group 1s this year, including the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud June 28 behind Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}).
“The King George is the plan for him,” said Fabre.

“He ran his usual good race at Saint-Cloud and I am sure he will at Ascot, providing he gets fast ground.”
