Evergreen gelding Cirrus des Aigles (Fr) (Even Top {Ire}) will miss the June 28 G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud–and a second clash with dual G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB})–after suffering a small setback, according to trainer Corine Barande-Barbe.
“It's nothing serious, just a little bump and a bruise, but it will prevent him from running in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud,” the conditioner said. “It's just a little problem with his leg; it's very, very small, but it just means that we cannot work him at the moment. With a horse like him who gives everything in his work and racing, you have to be sure everything is 100%, otherwise you can have serious problems. He can only do light work for a few weeks now so I think he will be off until the end of July.”
The 9-year-old has won Group 1s in France, Britain and Dubai, and Barande-Barbe said she may try to add an Irish success to that tally.
“It is difficult to say when he will be back and where he will go, but we have not forgotten about the [G1] Irish Champion S. [in September],” she added. “Maybe he will have a race before that, we will have to see, but that could be an option.”
