Chasing longshot Holy Gold (Touch Gold) while well out in the track early, the bay confronted that foe in the lane, and eventually powered clear to score by a comfortable 5 1/2-length margin. So Fancy (Tapit), last year's $500,000 Fasig-Tipton July sale topper, checked in third. According to TDN insta-tistics, Union Rags was third by average yearling auction price among North American-based freshman sires last season, with an average price of $132,237. Ranked third with juveniles at auction through Tuesday, the GI Champagne S. and GI Belmont S. winner was responsible for a $975,000 colt at Fasig-Tipton, which so far is the priciest juvenile sired by a freshman sire in 2016.
