+LADY STARDUST (f, 2, Union Rags–Hallelujah Trail {MSP, $187,430}, by Gilded Time), backed down to 2-5 for the nation's dominant barn with early juveniles, ran to the money and gave a good first push for her much-hyped freshman sire Union Rags, becoming the Lane's End resident's first winner from as many starters. Chasing longshot Holy Gold (Touch Gold) while well out in the track early, the bay confronted that foe in the lane, and eventually powered clear to score by a comfortable 5 1/2-length margin. So Fancy (Tapit), last year's $500,000 Fasig-Tipton July sale topper, checked in third. According to TDN insta-tistics, Union Rags was third by average yearling auction price among North American-based freshman sires last season, with an average price of $132,237. Ranked third with juveniles at auction through Tuesday, the GI Champagne S. and GI Belmont S. winner was responsible for a $975,000 colt at Fasig-Tipton, which so far is the priciest juvenile sired by a freshman sire in 2016. Lady Stardust's dam produced a Creative Cause filly last year, and was bred back to Goldencents. Sales history: $105,000 RNA Ylg '15 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $50,000.
