Oriental Art (Jpn) (Mejiro McQueen {Jpn}–Electro Art {Jpn}, by Northern Taste), the dam of Group 1 winners Orfevre (Jpn) (Stay Gold {Jpn}) and Dream Journey (Jpn) (Stay Gold {Jpn}), has died, according to Racing Post. The 18-year-old mare reportedly suffered a perforated uterus after delivering a full-sister to Orfevre and Dream Journey last Wednesday.
Oriental Art visited Stay Gold during her first season at stud in 2003. That mating produced Dream Journey, who was crowned champion 2-year-old after winning the Asahi Hai Futurity and would later earn champion older horse honors after taking the G1 Arima Kinen and G1 Takarazuka Kinen. Oriental Art produced winners by Kurofune and Neo Universe (Jpn) before returning to Stay Gold in 2008, the result being Orfevre, whose accolades included Horse of the Year, champion 3-year-old, champion older horse honors. Orfevre won Japan's Triple Crown and six Group 1s, and was twice second in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Oriental Art produced an unplaced filly by Deep Impact (Jpn) the year after Orfevre, followed by Lien de Famille (Jpn), another winner by Stay Gold. Oriental Art's 3-year-old is the winner and multiple group-placed Ash Gold (Jpn) (Stay Gold {Jpn}).
