Pharoah’ Jogs & Dortmund Breezes
Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) was back on the track jogging at Santa Anita Sunday morning.
“He jogged today,” trainer Bob Baffert said. “The weather is still pretty hot, but he’ll probably start galloping tomorrow. He’ll parade here Saturday, but he won’t breeze.”
Baffert’s other top sophomore Dortmund (Big Brown) breezed a half-mile in :47.40 in Arcadia Sunday. The ‘TDN Rising Star’ worked in company with GIII Affirmed S. winner Gimme Da Lute (Midnight Lute), who stopped the clock in :47.
“He went nice,” Baffert said. “He went an easy half. “We’re slowly keeping him fit, but he still has a ways to go. He lost a lot of weight but he’s slowly getting it back.”
Winner of his first six starts, including the GI Santa Anita Derby, the Kaleem Shah colorbearer was handed his first defeat when finishing third behind American Pharoah and Firing Line (Line of David) in the GI Kentucky Derby May 2. Dortmund was last seen finishing fourth in a sloppy renewal of the GI Preakness S. May 16.
