G1 Epsom Oaks heroine Qualify (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) looks set to take her chance against the colts in the G1 Irish Derby at The Curragh Saturday. Thanks to the new Breeders’ Cup ‘Win and You’re In’ incentive in the Dubai Duty Free sponsored event, the Aidan O’Brien-trained filly will form part of a possible five-strong Ballydoyle challenge. Speaking about his runners O’Brien said, “Qualify is in good form since Epsom and her owners John Morrell and Chantal Regalado-Gonzalez would like to let her take her chance. We always thought she was a really nice filly and we look forward to Saturday.” Qualify could be joined by G1 Epsom Derby fourth Giovanni Canaletto (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), G1 Prix du Jockey Club runner-up Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Listed Lingfield Derby Trial winner Kilimanjaro (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) and G3 Chester Vase winner Hans Holbein (GB) (Montjeu {Ire}). Of this quartet, O’Brien added, “Giovanni Canaletto is in good form. We felt Epsom was maybe coming a little too quickly for him, but he came out of the race well. Highland Reel will step up another quarter of a mile, but we were happy with him in France last time and we’ve been happy with him since. Kilimanjaro ran a nice race at Epsom and the Curragh might suit him better than Epsom and also I think the same could be said about Hans Holbein.” Supplementary entries for the race close at midday on Tuesday and another potential inclusion is last week’s G2 Ribblesdale S. winner Curvy (GB) (Galileo {Ire}).
