Racing NSW Clears Camilleri Confusion

Racing NSW has issued a statement to alleviate confusion surrounding Australian Turf Club board member John Camilleri and the troubled harness racing identity sharing the same name. The latter Camilleri has been found guilty and penalized in the cobalt case involving trainer Mark Kavanagh, but Racing NSW Chief Executive Peter V’landys emphasized this is not the same John Camilleri as the owner/breeder serving on the ATC board.
“John Camilleri of Fairway Thoroughbreds is a person of good standing in Thoroughbred racing, such that he was appointed to the inaugural ATC Board,” said V’landys. “As an owner and breeder, he has and continues to make a valuable contribution to the Thoroughbred racing industry in Australia, including breeding the most recent Golden Slipper winner, Vancouver. He is not associated with the John Camilleri that has recently been penalized in the Midsummer Sun inquiry. It is very unfortunate that some have confused him with the other John Camilleri.”
