Asperity gave indication of early promise with a first-up second, against more seasoned rivals, at Sandown Sept. 13. Leaving the form of that defeat behind, the G1 Derby entry was not headed in this one and came home a most decisive winner. Charting a lone passage in the center of the track as the main bunch remained on the stands' side, the 8-11 pick was last off the bridle inside the final quarter mile and he romped clear from the eighth pole to secure an easy five-length win from the well-regarded Life (Ire) (Sadler's Wells). “He is a promising horse and I will put him away now and bring him back next year at a mile,” John Gosden told PA Sport. “If he is in great form you would have to look at the [G3] Craven S. for him. War Chant was a miler, but he might get a mile and a quarter.” The bay's granddam is Storm Song, the U.S. champion two-year-old filly of 1996 and 3/4-sister to last year's ill-fated GSW Diamond Omi. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, £8,716.
