July 9, 2009 - NEWMARKET, Race , Cond, GBP £20,000, 6f, 15.45

1st Dam: Nufoos (GB)
2st Dam: Desert Lynx (Ire)
2st Dam: Sweeping (GB)

Owner: Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum
Breeder: Shadwell Estate Company Limited
Trainer: Mark Johnston

Sent off at 9-1 despite the obvious promise of his debut success at Hamilton June 17, Awzaan was anchored leaving the stalls and was protected from the fast early fractions. Slicing through rivals inside the final quarter, the homebred quickened to lead in a matter of strides approaching the furlong marker and drew away under hand riding to beat Amary (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) by five lengths. “For an Alhaarth to win first time over six furlongs was pretty good and, although he made the running there, they went quick here so I sat on him and he produced a really good turn of foot,” jockey Richard Hills commented. “The mother was tough and regarding his ideal distance, Mark [Johnston] will probably go with what the horse shows us rather than his breeding.” Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, £16,837.
