Battle Paint knew the score when tearing up his debut by three lengths at Deauville Aug. 8 and laid down a notable marker with another impressive effort in this second go. Hammered into 1-5 at the tills, the betting dominance was reflected on the lush track as he toyed with his opponents without being fully extended. Sent to the front off an even break, the homebred bay required no more than minimal encouragement inside the closing panel to comfortably hold Jarhes (Ire) (Green Desert) by a length and will now take the step into Group 1 company. Winning trainer Jean-Claude Rouget was impressed and explained, “This horse has talent and I figured this was the ideal race to prep him for the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day [Oct. 1]. It is over the same course and distance and, after winning so nicely, that is definitely where he will go next.” Lifetime Record: 2 starts, 2 wins, Eu26,000.
