Beach Patrol notched his second win in as many starts since arriving to California with an authoritative allowance score at Santa Anita Sunday afternoon, becoming the newest ‘TDN Rising Star’. The dark bay began his career in the barn of Wayne Catalano and ran respectably in two tries over the Fair Grounds sod, checking in third on debut after a wide run in a one-mile turf event Nov. 26 and following up with a runner-up effort after being hit by a rival’s whip in a 1 1/16-mile test Dec. 19. Subsequently transferred to this new barn which has enjoyed considerable success with turfers in Southern California, the $250,000 Keeneland November purchase stormed home a much-the-best winner over a grassy mile here Mar. 12, easily defeating next-out winner Tristan’s Trilogy (Scat Daddy). Tabbed as slight second choice in this spot, Beach Patrol seized control soon after the start and was well-rated on the front end through a half-mile in :47.46. Confronted by Arcature (Archarcharch) cornering for home, the West colorbearer had plenty left in reserve and kicked clear to notch a decisive tally. The winner’s dam is a half to MGSW & GISP Allamerican Bertie (Quiet American) and Hurricane Bertie (Storm Boot). This is also the extended family of MGSW & MGISP Sun King (Charismatic) and MGSW turfer Ocean Drive (Belong to Me), herself the dam of last term’s Del Mar Juvenile Turf hero and GI FrontRunner S. third-place finisher Hollywood Don (Tapit). Beach Patrol’s dam, Bashful Bertie, produced a colt by Speightstown in 2015 and wasmost recently bred to Malibu Moon. Lifetime Record: 4-2-1-1, $79,870.
