Rain or shine, the show must go on, and Curtain Call (Tiz the Law) gave the people what they came to see at Saratoga, kicking home powerfully at second asking to claim 'TDN Rising Star' honors.
The son of Tiz the Law was unveiled June 12 at Churchill Downs to run a well-beaten second behind fellow 'Rising Star' Obliteration (Violence). That runner returned to action July 5 at this venue to put on a Tour de Force in the GIII Sanford Stakes, winning by 10 1/2 lengths and earning a 91 Beyer after covering the six panel distance on a fast track in 1:10.65.
Well-supported by the betting public here at 2-1 odds, he gave them a moment to sweat when he stumbled coming out of the gate, but recovered well to track Throckmorton (Caracaro), who was determined to control the tempo. Content to follow that one as the frontrunner rolled through an opening quarter in :22.17, the field swung through bend behind a half in :45.15, and the running was on as they entered the homestretch.
Called on for his best as even-money favorite Tagermeen (Into Mischief) loomed on his outside and Throckmorton refused to throw in the white flag from the rail, Curtain Call found a brisk second wind to kick home by a widening margin in a final time of 1:10.31. The public choice came second while the long-time leader ran third.
Curtain Call is the most recent to get his picture taken for Deep Trouble, who now claims four winning offspring from as many to the races. She has a yearling full-brother to the 'Rising Star' and had been bred to Verifying for 2025. Deep Trouble hails from the immediate female family of MGISW Artemis Agrotera (Roman Ruler), whose half-sister is the second dam, SP Submerge (Fusaichi Pegasus). This is also the family of GISW Stephen Got Even (A.P. Indy).
