Deadly Dealer began his career for trainer Ronny Werner and a partnership that included his breeder, Terry Raymond, and Gus Goldsmith. After finishing third in a Churchill maiden Nov. 1 in his career debut, the bay didn't start again until Christmas Eve, when he wired a group of Fair Grounds maidens at even-money. He was subsequently purchased privately by Charles Wacker and turned over to Todd Pletcher. Breaking from post 11, Deadly Dealer jumped out quickly and put down splits of :22.23 and :44.35. He was asked for a bit more turning for home and duly responded, opening up seven lengths. Boogie Boggs (Dixie Union) won the race for second. The winning time was a tick faster than the GII Hutcheson S. Lifetime Record: 3-2-0-1, $57,360.
