Diamond Bachelor turned heads from the beginning, bringing $100,000 as a Keeneland November weanling before being flipped for $195,000 at Fasig Tipton August. He resurfaced at Barretts March, where he breezed in :10 flat (video) for the Ciaran Dunne consignment, and was hammered down to Patrick Biancone for $570,000–the third highest price of the sale. The dark bay received his early education at Pegasus Training Center before moving to Del Mar in mid July, where he boasted a decent main track work tab, most recently going four furlongs in :49 flat Aug. 5. Away from the gate smoothly for this first go, Diamond Bachelor traveled off the flank of the pacesetting Bourne Hot (Latent Heat) through honest opening fractions, and drew even heading into the turn. Diamond Bachelor poked his head in front at the quarter pole and put the race to bed, drawing clear by an effortless four lengths to win geared down from Carson's Ten (Rock Hard Ten). Diamond Bachelor hails from one of the most useful female families in North America. His third dam is Right Word, the dam of Ascutney (Lord at War {Arg})–who produced GI Breeder's Cup Classic hero Raven's Pass (Elusive Quality)–and Words of War (Lord at War {Arg}), the dam of GI winner and producer No Matter What and sire E Dubai. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $45,000.
