Discreet Dancer's half-brother Travelin Man (Trippi), GSW, $159,414, romped on debut by 7 1/4 lengths here in January before finishing second in the GII Hutcheson S. in February and annexing the GII Swale S. in April for these connections. The homebred was backed down to 3-5 to follow in his big brother's footsteps, and he did not disappoint. Discreet Dancer pressed the pace through an opening quarter in :22.12, and took over before getting the half in :44.99. The chestnut enjoyed a four-length lead at the head of the lane, and flew to the wire under only minor encouragement from Javier Castellano to score by 9 3/4 lengths and shatter the track record by 4/5 of a second. Put It There (Put It Back) was second best. “He's a really nice horse,” said Castellano of the winner. “Everything he does, he does it the right way. Today, he was amazing. He does it so easy. He galloped out great past the wire. I didn't ask him at all today.” Discreet Dancer becomes the 14th winner for his freshman sire (by Forestry), who was a very sharp debut winner for the Robshams and trainer Stan Hough at Saratoga in 2005 before being purchased by Godolphin, for whom he annexed the GII UAE Derby and GI Cigar Mile H. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,300.
