Last July, Echo of Light was earmarked by Sheikh
Mohammed as the pick of the progeny of Dubai Millennium,
but he was kept out of the Classics after just two
placed efforts in Newmarket maidens at the back-end
of his juvenile season and on his return May 7. The bay
famously ran off the track when clear in a Windsor
maiden Aug. 1, but put matters right with a facile eightlength
success at Yarmouth a fortnight later. Sent
straight to the lead by Kerrin McEvoy yesterday, the
9-4 pick demonstrated an enthusiastic galloping style
under restraint and had his rivals dead when the rein
was loosened at the quarter pole. Opening up from
there, he bounded to a seven-length success from
Khyber Kim (GB) (Mujahid) in a time just over a second
off the track record despite the substantial rain which
preceded racing. “He was a big baby last year and he is
improving all the time,” his trainer explained. “He was
still a little bit keen early on, but he had the class. There
are no plans for him at the moment, but we will find a
better race if we run him again this season. He will be
much better next year and I think a mile and a half will
be no problem for him.” Echo of Light, a i1.2 million
GOFORB yearling, is out of a full sister to champion
Salsabil (Ire). Lifetime Record: 5-2-1-0, £17,011.
