Enchanting Lady was off a step slowly while chasing home Seduire in a runner-up effort as the 2-5 favorite in her 4 1/2-furlong debut May 22. Favored to get revenge on that foe here, the dark bay filly stumbled slightly coming out of the gate, but recovered to press Seduire through an opening quarter in :21.67. She inhaled the pacesetter on the turn and powered clear with authority. “I was surprised she got beat the first time out,” winning trainer Bob Baffert admitted. “I thought, 'That must be a really good filly of Jerry [Hollendorfer]'s, because she's fast.” Winning rider Martin Garcia added, “Her last time out, it was too short for her. I had the outside post in here, so I could do what I wanted and pick the best position for her. I just started chasing the filly on the lead and when I asked her, she just took off. She's a really good filly. She got beat by Seduire last time out. Seduire is quicker, but my filly wants to go longer.” Trainer Eddie Kenneally signed the ticket at $90,000 to secure Enchanting Lady at the 2013 Keeneland September sale. The filly blossomed into a $650,000 OBSMAR juvenile after working a furlong in :10 1/5 when consigned by Eddie Woods. The filly was bred by the Randal Family Trust, which purchased her dam A.P. Baby for $85,000 out of the 2010 Keeneland November sale. The mare produced a Harlan's Holiday filly this spring. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $86,200.
