Enchantress, backed as the 8-5 favorite to complete an all-John Velazquez pick four and cap a big day for Todd Pletcher-trained juveniles, ran to her $950,000 Barretts March price tag to win as much the best. Quickly in front, the bay filly doled out pressured splits of :22.63 and :46.03 while off the rail. She started to inch away approaching the quarter pole, and took the turn straight and strong to draw away by a widening 6 3/4 lengths. Fellow firsters Zeven (Lookin At Lucky) and White Clover (Exchange Rate) rounded out the exacta and trifecta, respectively. The winner RNA'd for $120,000 as a KEENOV weanling before bringing $160,000 as a KEESEP yearling. She covered a furlong in :10 flat in Pomona, and was one of a trio of juveniles by her sire secured by the Coolmore contingent at Barretts March for a total of $1.95 million. Also among those purchases was $550,000 Stanford, a debut winner for these connections and Stonestreet Stables at Monmouth in June before finishing sixth in the GII Saratoga Special S. The winner's dam, who is also responsible for Chun Tosaigh (Street Cry {Ire}), GSP-Ire, is a 3/4 sister to dual Grade I-winning juvenile First Samurai (Giant's Causeway). This is also the extended female family of other recent graded stakes-winning juveniles Kantharos (Lion Heart) and O'Prado Again (El Prado {Ire}) and MGISW Jeranimo (Congaree).
