Gangster was dismissed at odds of 21-1 for this second career start, but proved more than able with a powerful four-length score, earning 'TDN Rising Star' status. The dark bay checked in fourth on debut going 6 1/2 panels at Belmont June 27. Away in good order, he dictated the pace through fractions of :23.92 and :48.79 and remained in front turning for home. Set down for the drive, he powered to the wire four lengths clear of stablemate Indian Trail (Indian Charlie), a full-brother to champion Uncle Mo. The final time for nine furlongs was significantly faster than the winning time of 1:50.40 posted by Smart Transition (Smart Strike) in the Curlin S. one race earlier. The winner, a son of MGSW Miss Isella, sold for $140,000 as an FTSAUG yearling. Miss Isella has a weanling colt by Point of Entry. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $53,550.
