1st Dam: Manerbe
2st Dam: Mrs. Marcos
2st Dam: Dancing Slippers
Owner: Zayat Stables, LLC
Breeder: Ecurie Des Monceaux (Ire)
Trainer: Todd A. Pletcher
Gidu (Ire) (Frankel {GB}—Manerbe, by Unbridled’s Song), a smart second after contesting a hot pace behind subsequent Fasig-Tipton Turf Showcase Juvenile S. hero Snapper Sinclair (City Zip) sprinting on the Saratoga lawn first out Aug. 14, fired fresh off the bench with a ‘TDN Rising Star’ performance at Gulfstream Saturday.
Gidu, a €410,000 ARAUG yearling purchase, showed a pair of bullets in interim at Todd Pletcher’s Palm Beach Downs base, including a four-furlong move in :48 3/5 (1/27) Dec. 2, and was favored at 4-5 to go one better. The Zayat Stables colorbearer broke sharply and pressed from the outside in second through an opening quarter in :21.74. Still in hand by John Velazquez as they turned for home, Gidu grabbed the advantage from there and kicked home nicely to graduate by 3 1/4 lengths. Oroscopo (Orb) completed the exacta at 37-1.
Gidu is the second winner and ‘TDN Rising Star’ for the mighty Frankel in the U.S. He is also represented by the two-time Belmont stakes winner Rubilinda.
Produced by a winning half-sister to GISW and producer Zoftig (Cozzene), Gidu is a half-brother to Marbre Rose (Ire) (Smart Strike), GSW-Can, MGSP-Fr, SW-US, $298,822. Manerbe’s yearling filly by Shamardal brought €450,000 from Solis/Litt at this summer’s Arqana Deauville August Sale. The Zayats purchased another offspring by Frankel earlier this year, acquiring the €1.6-million topper from the Goffs Orby Sale.
