Freshman sire Constitution was represented by his fifth TDN Rising Star when Golden Principal strode to an impressive debut victory at Del Mar Saturday. Sent off the holiday crowd's 1-2 favorite, the dark bay filly was on the lead in the initial strides, but ceded her advantage and settled in a stalking second as Diggin Gold (Goldencents) pulled her way to the front. Golden Principal inhaled that rival turning for home and opened a clear lead in a matter of strides as the half-mile flashed up in :44.85. She was comfortably in front down the lane, with only Classy Ruler (Empire Maker) chasing in vain, and came under the wire 1 1/2 lengths in front. Golden Principal is the 24th winner for Constitution (Tapit).
Golden Principal, who RNA'd for $35,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September sale, sold for $200,000 after working a furlong in :10 1/5 at this year's OBS April sale. The once-raced Gold d'Medaglia produced a filly by Air Force Blue in 2018 and was bred to Cupid this year.
