It has been 31 years since Dunfermline (GB) provided The Queen with Classic success in the 1977 G1 St Leger, but Her Majesty has another potential contender after Golden Stream broke the juvenile track record in convincing style here. The bay homebred was out sharply to claim an immediate lead and settled in second after the early exchanges. Shuffled back to fourth at halfway, she made smooth progress back to the front approaching the final furlong and kept on strongly under whipless encouragement up the hill to secure an impressive one-length win from Uvinza (GB) (Bertolini) at odds of 10-1. “She is quite a natural and has known her job for a while now,” explained winning trainer Sir Michael Stoute. “I couldn't be more pleased with that debut, and I'm delighted with her.” Golden Stream, who retains an entry in the G1 Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile at Ascot Sept. 27, received immediate quotes of 20-1 for next term's G1 1000 Guineas. She is a full sister to 2001 G1 Epsom Oaks runner-up Flight of Fancy (GB), G1SP-GB, $124,966. Her dam, Phantom Gold, captured the 1995 G2 Ribblesdale S. at Royal Ascot for The Queen.
